Phonemic awareness and phonics are the cornerstones for reading. Practicing letter sounds, letter identification and letter formation prepares your child for kindergarten. Identifying and counting numbers using manipulatives develops 1-1 correspondence and fine motor skills. Calendar skills, counting and number sense, developing expressive language and vocabulary skills using positive reinforcement can also be implemented to create a seamless transition to Kindergarten.
Research shows multi- sensory instruction on a consistent basis helps students retain information and gain the confidence they need to build their academic skills.
Early Literacy Skill Builder creates phonemic awareness and sight word recognition, the cornerstones of reading, with visual prompts and repetition to build mastery in fun interactive methods.
The WADE assessment addresses phonemic awareness and sight word recognition. By using the Wilson Reading program, students are taught sounds and syllables systematically using Orton Gillingham hands- on instruction to develop mastery of sounds and syllable types. Reinforcement is provided in reading activities, writing words and sentences, and hands on magnetic tiles to manipulate and create words and patterns to develop mastery.
Research Based Math Programs: Early Numeracy and VMATH.
The Early Numeracy Program helps elementary students develop skills in math beginning with one- to one correspondence with counting, to more complex skills such as adding sets of numbers, to ABAB patterns.
VMATH incorporates skills from grades 2-6 including multiplication, division, fractions and decimals using hands on and visual examples to build knowledge and real life understanding.
